Founded in 2008, The Cambridge Satchel Company was started from £600 and a dream, the dream was Julie Deane’s. With no previous design experience Julie Deane took on the challenge of creating a traditional satchel, her inspiration to make a modern satchel came from the difficulties she was experiencing in her personal life, Julie’s daughter was being bullied at her school and she desperately wanted to get her out of that school and send her to a better one.

This drive, accredits the company’s success, because she so desperately wanted to get her kids out of the school they were in, she put everything into making The Cambridge Satchel Company succeed. The idea behind the satchel came after reading ‘Harry Potter’ to her children and subsequently trying to find them a satchel for school, but having no success she decided to start making her own.

After scouring the country for a leather factory, she began the fruitful relationship with a small company in Scotland, creating and selling around 3 satchels a week around the kitchen table, which has now developed to a whopping 1,500 a week in a variety of colours. Profits reached well over 2.2 million last year and are set to sore in 2012 to over £12 million.

Now massively popular with celebrities, the Cambridge satchel is the go to accessory of the year. In so many colours you can match them to your outfit and mood.
