Style | Cool German Purism

German style is synonymous with purism; clothes that are extremely well cut and designed, yet understated. It’s not about being flashy but smart and sophisticated – think of the tailored suiting of Hugo Boss, the modern elegance of Escada and the minimalism of Jil Sander.

There’s also a more experimental side to German style. Berlin has gained a reputation for being one of Europe’s coolest cities and its fashion sense is definitely a part of that, with its residents not afraid to be unconventional. The practicality is always there though; feminine, floaty dresses are paired with ‘ugly’ sandals or trainers and pared-down makeup, adding a tomboy edge to their looks. German bloggers Maja Wyh  and Masha Sedgwick nail this practical yet fashion-forward style and always look incredibly cool.

German brand Liebeskind fits in with this aesthetic perfectly. Its bags are made with buttery-soft leather, making them luxurious and long lasting. Their shapes are practical and useful and subtly hint at trends (this season’s collection pays reference to the ‘70s trend with suede and fringing) yet, true to form, they’re classic and understated.
