The clocks have gone forward, the trees are getting greener and the sun is making regular appearances in the sky, which can only mean one thing: Spring has officially arrived. Long evenings, new trends and a chance to ditch our winter staples of tights and boots are just some of the reasons we love this time of year. Another reason? Easter – because when else can you gorge on bunny-shaped chocolate guilt-free?
As well as the copious amounts of chocolate, we love to get dressed up for the occasion. Fashion at Easter doesn’t have to be literal (put down the straw bonnets laden with fluffy plastic chicks and papier-mâché eggs); think pastels, florals, and fresh colours instead. These styles will see you through Spring/Summer, with pastels and bright whites dominating the SS15 collections of Haider Ackermann, Richard Nicoll, and BCBG MAXAZRIA. Meanwhile, florals were ever-present at Oscar de la Renta, Valentino and Holly Fulton.
We’ve picked some of our favourite bags and accessories from the MyBag collection that will make the perfect addition to your Easter outfit.
Mint is a fashion favourite, seen at Chloé and Monique Lhuillier for SS15. We love this mini satchel from The Cambridge Satchel Company in mint, with the classic satchel downsized and given a fresh look for spring. Pastel pink is another colour that has been revived in the past couple of years, going from a colour reserved for little girls to a high-fashion must-have. Last year it was all about the pink coat; this season pink floaty dresses ruled at the likes of Eudon Choi and Mara Hoffman. A pink bag, like this one from Lauren Ralph Lauren, is an easy way to give a nod to the trend if you don’t want to go for a full pink look.
Nudes and whites are classic colours that are perfect for clean, summer styles. Colours that will never date, they look great paired with dark clothing, tonal colours or head-to-toe white. Different tones of nude were seen at Lanvin and Vionnet for SS15, while full white looks were done best at Roberto Cavalli and Alexander Wang. This tote bag from Karl Lagerfeld nails the nude trend, while this off-white one from Paul’s Boutique is perfect for a simple, minimalist look.
The backpack trend is one that has exploded in the past few years, updated in luxe leathers and new designs to take them from practical school bag to high fashion. Moschino and Mulberry were just two fashion houses to include the humble backpack in their SS15 collections, showing that this is no fashion fad. We love these backpacks from Grafea and Herschel Supply Co., especially for their take on the pastel trend.
Last but not least, a lightweight scarf is a great way to put the finishing touches to an outfit. Keep your look minimal and these floral scarves from Knutsford and Ted Baker will add a pop of colour, making them the stand-out pieces.
