Michael Kors SS15

Ever since Coco Chanel stepped out in the classic Breton marinière in the 1920s, nautical has been a trend that comes around every year and has become synonymous with summer style. Navy, white and stripes make up the key elements of this trend, with wide leg trousers, pea coats, boat shoes and fisherman knits also getting a look-in.

For SS15, the nautical trend is reimagined and goes beyond the Breton top. At Marc Jacobs the sailor’s uniform was updated, becoming oversized and given a couture edge, while Lanvin featured oversized pea coats with big, gold buttons. J.W. Anderson tied sculptural tops and dresses together with hemp rope – a distinct nod to masts and sails – and classic navy and white stripes were seen at Chanel. Add a twist to the trend this season and go for subtle accents or try fisherman-inspired looks as seen at Michael Kors. Navy and white is always a colour combination associated with a nautical trend but injections of red and tan also work well with this look.
