The Cambridge Satchel Company was created one afternoon in Julie Deane’s kitchen…
Julie Deane was brainstorming about how to pay her children’s school fees, when she remembered how much she loved her old school satchel. Unable to find a modern-day equivalent of her much-loved schoolbag, Julie decided to create a company dedicated to the creation of traditional leather satchels.
After sketching out the logo on a notepad and deciding on a name, The Cambridge Satchel Company was born. Originally starting by manufacturing six satchels, within weeks production has escalated to several hundred satchels every month; Italian Vogue features a red satchel in a photo-shoot, and bloggers are spotted wearing the satchels at New York Fashion Week. Google Chrome get in touch and The Cambridge Satchel Company is featured in their advertising campaigns, transforming The Cambridge Satchel Company into an online sensation overnight.
The first Cambridge Satchel Company store opens in 2013 in Covent Garden, and becomes a global phenomenon. Prince William pops in to view ‘The Great Wall of Satchels’ in the China store, and The Cambridge Satchel Company continues to go from strength to strength.
We love The Cambridge Satchel Company here at MyBag, and have hand-picked a few of our most-loved satchels from the AW15 collection – which satchel is your favourite?
