Is Marc Jacobs a luxury brand?
In short, yes Marc Jacobs is a luxury brand. The eponymous Marc Jacobs brand is the brainchild of the former Louis Vuitton Creative Director, who transformed the brand from more than a luxury luggage label to the forefront of the fashion world.
Marc Jacobs studied womenswear design at Parsons the New School for Design. His senior year consisted of three oversized sweaters hand-knit by his grandmother. He was awarded the young designer the school’s Chester Weinberg and Perry Ellis Gold Thimble award, as well as Design Student of the Year.
In 1986, Jacobs and former Beuben Thomas executive Robert Duffy launched their first design venture under the Marc Jacobs label which captured interest and earnt them the New Fashion Talent award. In 1989 Jacobs joined Perry Ellis as womenswear lead he was one of the youngest in the industry in that kind of position. He was iconically fired due to a grunge collection flop, which he sent samples to Cobain and Courtney Love, which they supposedly burnt. Jacobs and Duffy launched the Marc Jacobs International company shortly after.

They sold 96 percent of the shareholding to LVMH consolidating the position of the brand amongst some of the most prestigious fashion houses. Jacobs around this time also joined Louis Vuitton as Creative Director. With a string of successful collaborations with contemporary artists such as Takashi Murakami (2005), Richard Prince (2007) and Yayoi Kusama (2012) over his 15 years span at Vuitton, Jacobs earnt a highly-regarded reputation. With a designer like this behind the brand, it is one of the reasons you can call Marc Jacobs a luxury brand.
Are Marc Jacobs bags luxury handbags?
To answer this question we looked at the quality, collection and price range. The quality of the Marc Jacobs shoulder bags is consistently high. The finish on all the details, fastenings and straps is to a really high standard. If you choose a leather style it’s a super smooth, buttery leather that is soft to touch and looks luxurious. Their bags come with a dust bag included so you can store the bag properly and wear it forever.
Although the brand has such a varied collection, they are renowned for their fun, fashion-forward, ultra-feminine styles. They always have a wide range of vibrant colours, fabrications and prints, to choose from. Overall Marc Jacobs sits in the affordable luxury bracket in comparison to the likes of Chanel and Louis Vuitton, needless to say, Marc Jacobs is still a luxury brand.

Why are Marc Jacobs bags so popular?
Marc Jacobs has become increasingly popular as an IT brand among Gen Z and millennials. Following the success of their fragrance Daisy and their Heaven collection the brand has carved itself a unique market, resonating with youth-centred trends.
Heaven was the collection perfectly aimed at a younger demographic. It was the first collection from their current designer Ava Nirui aka Instagram Fashion Artist @avanope and was an entanglement of 00s rave, 90s grunge and 2022 maximalist. Since then the brand has carefully built a community of faces that emphasise their place in the fashion world. So far, Doja Cat, Kendall Jenner, and Kyle MacLauchlan to name a few.
